Rinai Maurice

Name : Rinai Maurice

Bio :

When the tenor saxophonist and flautist Rinai isn't teaching or performing, there is always more music to discover - or beats to make. Drawn to jazz, hip-hop, ballads, and everything in between, Rinai enjoys exploring the different sounds, ideas, and influences that music has to offer. To Rinai, music is never limited to a single form or definition; it can be reshaped, reinterpreted, and taken in directions yet to be explored. Blurring the lines between genres, Rinai leans towards a sound that isn't quite one thing or another. Music that cannot be labelled as _just_ jazz or _just_ hip-hop is part of what makes it intriguing — and that's the kind of sound Rinai strives to create.

Having spent the past four years teaching, Rinai has come to value the individuality that each student brings to the instrument. No two students learn in quite the same way, and teaching is as much about understanding the person as it is about developing their technique. The aim is to help each student grow into a musician who can think independently, trust their instincts, and develop a sound of their own. After all, learning music should be about more than getting the notes right; it should be about discovering what you want to say through them.

Teaching information :

- Delivery format

In-person lessons at the teacher's studio or the student's home, as well as online lessons via Zoom or Skype.

- Accepted Skill Levels & Ages

Students of all ages and skill levels are welcome, from beginners taking their first steps to more experienced players looking to develop their skills.

- Teaching experience & Philosophy : e.g., technique-focused, fun/recreational, exam preparation like ABRSM/Trinity.

With four years of teaching experience and a Teacher's Ambassador Award recipient for the Rockschool syllabus, Rinai approaches teaching as a process of understanding each student as an individual. Lessons are shaped around the student's needs, strengths, and areas for growth, with an emphasis on developing solid technique alongside musical expression.

The aim is not simply to teach students how to play, but to help them think, listen, experiment, and eventually find a sound they can call their own.
